ABOUT MALAYSIA
Malaysia is a culturally diverse nation, boasting a society that bridges traditional heritage with contemporary sophistication. From the impressive Petronas Twin Towers found in the heart of Kuala Lumpur to the longhouse villages unique to East Malaysia, this is a country that epitomises and promotes multiculturalism. If you are looking for a rich combination of flora and fauna and a region that has preserved its unique customs and traditions, Borneo (East Malaysia) is a must-visit. On the other hand, the capital and largest city, Kuala Lumpur serves as a shopping and entertainment hub, leading Malaysia’s fast paced development in trade, commerce, technology and tourism.

As a result of the diverse population of Malay, Chinese, Indian and other ethnicities, Malaysia is hugely popular for its gastronomical delights. Cuisines range from the Chinese-Malay Nonya selection, to Indian curries, Malay desserts and Chinese buffets. A vast variety of dishes can be found in hawker stalls, family style restaurants and chic fusion high-end bistros.

Kuala Lumpur has grown from a small-tin mining village to a bustling metropolis in just 50 years. This is witnessed in its’ reflection of glittering skyscrapers elegantly rising between the well-maintained colonial buildings in town. With the world’s best five-star hotels, amazing food selection, and a major stop for trade fair organisers and exhibitors in South East Asia, KL is the perfect gateway for business and leisure travellers alike.

A safe & tourist-friendly country, Malaysia is a popular destination for the single traveller, eco-tourism, sports fan, corporate convention participants to family vacations.

Come visit and discover Malaysia’s delight for yourself.

QUICK FACTS

GETTING AROUND UPON ARRIVAL
LRT is the Light Rail Transport system, which operates in the city center and the suburbs. ERL connects Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) with the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station where the venue of our conference (Hilton Kuala Lumpur) is located. The journey takes only 28 minutes. If you are arriving at LCCT or Subang International Airport, airport taxis will bring you straight from the airport to Hilton Kuala Lumpur.

GETTING AROUND DURING YOUR STAY
Monorail is an inner-city public transport system, which connects the most important business, hotel and shopping districts in the city center. Metered taxis can be found easily in the cities and at hotels. If the driver insists on a flat payment instead of using the meter, make sure you negotiate and agree on a price before boarding. A surcharge of 50% is applicable after midnight.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING
The climate in Malaysia is hot and humid throughout the year. Temperature ranges from an average of 21 - 32 degrees Celsius. Average annual rainfall varies from 200cm to 250cm. Light clothing is generally recommended while a jacket is advisable if you are going to cooler areas. Malaysia is a Muslim country and although we are more liberal, it is advisable for tourists not to wear too revealing outfit out of respect to the locals especially in the more rural areas and when entering religious grounds.

LANGUAGE
Bahasa Melayu (Malay) is the local language but English is widely spoken. Information boards and signs are also written in English.

CURRENCY
The local currency is Malaysian Ringgit (MYR or RM). Currency Exchange centres can be found throughout our city.
